Equipment

Ingredients

  • 350 g tofu firm or extra firm traditional tofu
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce or you can use gluten-free soy sauce
  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal
  • fresh parsley for garnish

For the seasoning

  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp dried parsley
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • tsp cayenne pepper optional

For the dipping sauce

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tbsp water
  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar or honey to taste
  • tsp ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic minced or grated

Instructions

  • Press the tofu. Wrap the tofu with a paper towel and place it on an inverted container or use a rack with a small baking pan to catch the excess liquid from the tofu. Place a small cast iron pan or wooden board on the tofu and let it stand to press for 30 minutes.
  • Slice the tofu into a cube, about an inch and a half. After slicing, squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
  • In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, sesame oil and Worcestershire sauce. Toss the tofu with the oil mixture in a bowl.
  • Mix all the seasoning ingredients with cornstarch and cornmeal. Then add to the tofu, toss or shake in a bowl until covered with the seasoning.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil.
  • Spread the tofu in a single layer. Depending on your air fryer and how crispy you like your tofu. Air fry the tofu at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Mix all the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl and serve with the tofu. Garnish with fresh parsley.
