Hi I’m Maricel
Welcome to my kitchen. I’m a food blogger, home cook, and wife to Tim—living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This is my little corner of the internet where I share the inspired recipes I cook, bake, and enjoy in my own kitchen.
“I believe that when we get creative, we can create and recreate simple, economical, and delicious versions of recipes”.

About the Blog
Every recipe here is my version: simple, approachable, and made with ingredients you can find easily. I create, test, film, and photograph everything myself. I don’t use a professional camera—everything you see here is shot and edited on my phone. Some videos may not be perfectly polished yet, but I’m learning as I go, so thank you for your patience. It’s just me doing all the work while also working full-time with my husband’s business. Whether you’re looking for comfort food, baking inspiration, or something new to try, my goal is to make cooking feel fun, doable, and delicious.
This blog is a growing collection of the meals I love and the flavors that remind me of home, family, and everyday life. I’m grateful you’re here for the journey , and I hope these recipes bring joy to your kitchen too.
Recipes You’ll Find Here
Here, you’ll find my version of popular recipes inspired by the many cultures that have shaped my cooking. You’ll see a mix of Filipino, Asian, Canadian, American, Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, and more -with step‑by‑step video tutorials to make each recipe easy to follow.
I love baking, so you’ll find plenty of baking recipes here. One of my favorites is chiffon cake, which is why you’ll see many chiffon cake recipes—each with its own unique flavor twist, like Ube Chiffon Cake and Pistachio Chiffon Cake. Another popular category here is my air fryer recipes, so don’t forget to check them out and give them a try.
Philosophy
What I care about.
Easy to follow: Fewer unnecessary steps. My goal is to make cooking easy, doable, and delicious.
Recipes that repeat well: Food you’ll want to make again, not just once.
Budget‑friendly, low‑waste cooking: Recipes that make the most of what you already have.
Process
How recipes get here.
Every recipe starts with a version. It usually begins with me asking myself, ‘How can I make this simpler, tastier, and less of a hassle in my own kitchen?’
I want a cooking process that feels easy, not stressful. Once it works, that’s the version I share with you—food you’ll actually want to make again.”
A bit more about me
I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to Canada in October 2003. I love food and travel, and I’m passionate about cooking, baking, and home decorating. Because of that love for food and hospitality, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, with courses in International Cuisine and Advanced Baking. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in restaurants, food establishments, and retail—experiences that continue to influence the way I cook and create today.
I started creating these recipes on October 15, 2019, while I was working full‑time in retail. I began sharing them on my Maricel’s Recipes Facebook page and YouTube channel as a way to record and share my favorite dishes, including many family recipes. Some of the Filipino recipes I learned from my mom (Nanay) and my grandma (Lola Nene), who continue to inspire me in the kitchen.
Stay tuned for more recipes, and thank you for being part of my food‑blogging adventure.
Thank you for stopping by.
“Make cooking fun and don’t stress about making mistakes. Let your kitchen be a fun little classroom – let your taste buds guide you, and your eyes to trust what looks right with instinct rather than focusing too much on the instructions”.
