- 12 pieces mussels fresh or frozen (thawed)
Mayo-cheese ingredients:
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 1 clove garlic grated
- ¼ cup Parmigiano Reggiano grated aged 24 months
- ¼ tsp oregano
- ½ tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Italian parsley finely chopped
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
For garnish:
- 1 tsp Italian parsley chopped
- ½ of lemon
Instructions
- Clean, rinse, and pat dry the mussels. Mix all the mayo topping ingredients until well blended.
- Spread about a 1/2 tbsp of the mayo mixture on each mussel.
For grilling:
- Grilled in a preheated Barbecue grill at 400°F cover for 4 to 5 minutes (depends on the sizes of mussels).
For baking:
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F for 3 minutes, then broil for 2 minutes.
Notes
Optional extra toppings:
You can also add toasted panko bread crumbs or Italian bread crumbs for extra crunch.
Feel free to add grated mozzarella cheese or quick melt cheese on top of each mussel before grilling or baking.
Make sure to set your timer. Overcooking will result in a rubbery texture and spoil the taste.
