Pinwheel Apple Danish
A delicious pastry perfect for dessert or snack filled with maple cinnamon flavour apple filling. This pinwheel pastry is easy and fun to make using a store-bought puff pastry.

Ingredients
- 250 g puff pastry
- 2 tbsp turbinado sugar
- Egg wash
Apple Pie Filling ingredients
- 2 apple peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tbsp pineapple juice
- 2 tbsp salted butter
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- ¼ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 2 tbsp tapioca starch or cornstarch
- 1 cinnamon stick
For garnish
- Cranberries optional
For serving
- Caramel optional
Instructions
Apple pie filling
- In a deep pan over medium-high heat, melt butter until browned. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, pineapple juice, maple syrup, cornstarch, and simmer until thickened. Add the apples and cinnamon stick. Cook for about 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat. Set aside to cool while preparing the dough.
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
How to make the pinwheel pastry
- Lightly flour the surface, the dough, and the rolling pin. Roll out the thawed puff pastry to a 12x8 inches rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Cut into 4-inch squares. Make a 1.5-inch slit at each corner of the dough, cutting toward the middle. Brush the edges of the pastry with egg wash. Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of the apple filling in the center then pull every second point of dough toward the center of the pastry.
- Place one cranberry in the middle of the pinwheel pastry (optional). Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for about 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm, drizzle with caramel or vanilla glazed (optional).
