Ingredients

  • 1 kg Pork shoulder or Pork Loin

Spice Dry rub ingredients:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper optional

Barbecue sauce ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp of hickory barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ tbsp soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic grated
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp thyme fresh or dried

Instructions

  • Pat dry and season the pork with spice dry rub mixture. Heat cast iron with oil on medium-high heat. Sear each side of pork loin until golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes each side.
  • Transfer in a slow cooker or crockpot. Pour the barbecue sauce on the pork. With the lid on, set on high for 4 to 6 hrs and on low for 6 to 8 hrs. It depends how tender you like it.
  • Transfer the pork on a serving plate and transfer the sauce in a saucepan. Let it simmer until thickened.
  • Use two forks to shred the pork, it full apart easily. Pour the barbecue sauce on shredded pork and serve.
  • Make a pulled pork sandwich, pulled pork wonton tacos, or topping for poutine.
