Ginataang Hipon-Shrimp in coconut milk

Quick and easy “Ginataang Hipon” or Shrimp in coconut milk recipe. Ginataang Hipon is a Filipino dish made of Shrimp, coconut milk, and long chilli pepper.

Ginataang Hipon Ingredients:

Shrimp (large) –  head-on cleaned and deveined
Coconut milk – a good quality for a creamier sauce
Vinegar– this will balance the flavour and remove some fishy smell
Long green sweet chilli peppers- is a sweet mild pepper that enhanced the flavour of this dish.
Sugar, salt and pepper to taste
Sauteed shrimp paste– it’s optional, but this will add lots of shrimp flavour to this dish.
Chives or green onion chopped for garnish

How to make Ginataang Hipon?

In a pan add the coconut milk, vinegar, and sugar to taste. Bring to a low simmer for 5 minutes or until slightly thickened.
Add sauteed shrimp paste, shrimp, and long green sweet chilli peppers. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes it depends on the size of the shrimp.
Garnish with chopped chives or green onion. Serve with steamed rice.

  • 1 lb large shrimp cleaned and deveined
  • 400 ml coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 long green sweet chili peppers

Optional ingredients:

  • 1 tsp sauteed shrimp paste
  • 1 tbsp chives or green onion chopped
