Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese

This delicious and easy stovetop Macaroni and Cheese recipe is topped with crunchy panko breadcrumbs and chopped crispy bacon. Ready in under 30 minutes!

How to make stovetop Macaroni and Cheese

Cook the macaroni. In a pot of boiling water, add salt and macaroni and cook until tender but still firm. Drain the water and drizzle with olive oil.
Prepare the toppings. Melt butter until browned, add panko breadcrumbs and toast for a minute. Cook the bacon until crispy and finely chop.
Make the cheese sauce. Melt butter, add onion and garlic. Saute until soft and caramelized. Add flour and milk. Stir and bring to a low simmer. Add the four-cheese, oregano and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil or until the cheeses melt. Remove from heat.
Add the Toppings. Serve the macaroni and cheese on a plate or bowl. Add the crunchy, nutty, toasted panko breadcrumbs, finely chopped crispy bacon, and finely chopped parsley.

  • 250 g macaroni
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 clove garlic minced or garlic powder
  • ¼ cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese grated pasteurized processed cheese
  • cup parmesan cheese grated
  • cup mozzarella cheese grated
  • ½ tsp oregano or Italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste

Toppings (optional)
